Senator Claire McCaskill (D-MO) claimed at a Missouri town hall that she opposed the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) “Waters of the U.S. Rule” (WOTUS) even though she voted to keep the regulation twice.

McCaskill told audience members at the town hall that she “did not support the Waters of the U.S. Rule” and “thought it went way too far.”

In November 2015, McCaskill voted against legislation that would repeal the EPA’s WOTUS regulation.

Later, in January 2016, McCaskill voted against cloture that would lead a Senate vote on the WOTUS rule.

The American Action Forum found that the EPA’s WOTUS rule, which would regulate interstate waterways, would cost $462.9 million every year.

Breitbart News reported that Senator Claire McCaskill remains one of the Senate’s most vulnerable Democrats, according to multiple pundits and a recent Morning Consult poll.

McCaskill once called Trump a “buffoon” and even claimed that “Trump and his friend Putin are the founders of ISIS.”

Senator McCaskill claimed that she could support a single-payer health care system. A recent Urban Institute study suggested that a single-payer health care system could cost $32 trillion over the next ten years.

Claire McCaskill has long entrenched herself in Washington, DC. In 2014, Claire McCaskill bought one of the priciest condominiums at CityCenter in the District of Columbia for $2.7 million. The Washington Post recently described CityCenter as “one of Washington’s poshest addresses” that represents “the new ideal for sophisticated, modern, urban living.”

Sen. McCaskill even claimed recently that “normal people” can afford private planes.

McCaskill serves as one of the four Democratic senators that Republicans have targeted for re-election. McCaskill has endured tight races in the past. Both Kyle Kondik of the University of Virgina’s Center for Politics and Eric Bradner of CNN labeled McCaskill the most vulnerable Senate Democrat for the 2018 midterm elections.

Kondik said, “McCaskill probably is the most vulnerable Senate Democrat both because of Missouri’s turn to the right over the past decade or so and a decent chance that she’ll have a strong challenger, likely state Attorney General Josh Hawley.”

“Claire McCaskill continues to peddle her dishonest rhetoric, but Missouri voters know the truth,” said National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) Spokesman Bob Salera. “From her support for overreaching regulations like WOTUS to her far-left positions on gun control and abortion, it’s clear Claire McCaskill does not stand with Missourians.”
