Congressman Lou Barletta (R-PA), a staunch Donald Trump supporter, will challenge Sen. Bob Casey (D-PA) in Pennsylvania’s 2018 U.S. Senate race.

In his announcement video released Tuesday, Rep. Barletta said that Americans “deserve a leader who actually listens to them and fights for them in Washington.”

Barletta cautioned that his opponent Bob Casey, “has brought up a war chest, built by up some of the most extreme liberal special interests in the country. Pennsylvania deserves better as an obstructionist leader.”

New York Times reporter Matt Flegenheimer wrote that Sen. Casey, “whose voice rarely exceeds the decibel level of a yoga instructor, has suddenly emerged as a vocal voice of the liberal resistance movement.”

Barletta added that he hopes to bring, “real, common-sense, immigration reform to America.”

Congressman Barletta was one of the first congressmen to endorse Donald Trump in the primaries, cheering Trump for his strong stance on illegal immigration. As mayor of Hazelton, Pennsylvania, Barletta cracked down on illegal immigration and businesses that hired illegal immigrants and instituted penalties for landlords that house illegals.

Barletta can ride the momentum off of the 2016 presidential election; Donald Trump was the first Republican nominee for president to win the state since Ronald Reagan. Sen. Pat Toomey (R-PA) an infamous “never Trump” politician won reelection after a tough race.

Barletta declared, “You’ll be sending a loud and clear message that you have joined the effort to make Pennsylvania and America great again.”
