President Donald Trump signed a proclamation declaring three days of prayer to remember the 9/11 terror attacks and to pray for the victims.
“As we reflect on our sorrow and our grief, we come together to pray for those who lost loved ones,” Trump said in a proclamation issued on Friday. “As a Nation, we pray that the love of God and the comfort of knowing that those who perished are forever remembered brings them peace and gives them courage.”
Trump referred to the “survivor tree” in his statement that remains near the base of where the Twin Towers once stood.
“Like the Survivor Tree, we continue to stand tall and strong as one Nation. Try as they might, terrorists will never defeat our resilient American spirit.”
The president also called for Americans to pray for everyone fighting terrorism in the United States and abroad.
In a second statement, Trump declared September 11th “Patriot Day.”
“We rededicate ourselves to the ideals that define our country and unite us as one, as we commemorate all the heroes who lost their lives saving others,” he wrote.
