Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX) told Breitbart News Executive Chairman Steven K. Bannon on Breitbart News Tonight after the Judge Roy Moore rally in Alabama that Roy Moore and other populists rock Sen. Richard Shelby (R-AL) and other establishment Republicans’ “comfy little boat.”

Bannon asked Gohmert, “Why is the toughest thing he’s been against the Republican establishment?”

Gohmert responded, “We rock their little boat. They would rather be in the minority and go along to get along. They prefer smooth sailing rather than standing up for what’s right.”

Sen. Richard Shelby (R-AL) said on Sunday that “the state of Alabama deserves better” than Roy Moore. Shelby also said, “I didn’t vote for Roy Moore. But I wrote in a distinguished Republican name.”

In response to Shelby’s comments about Roy Moore, Gohmert said, “I was shocked, just shocked.”

The Texas congressman said, “You know, I know, and Roy Moore knows that standing up for what’s right comes at a heavy cost and Roy Moore has really paid it. He’s been through absolute hell.”

Gohmert then explained during his speech on Monday that, given any situation with money and power at stake, one must look at who might benefit from the accusation to fully understand the accusation.

Gohmert charged, “Anytime there’s money and power involved, you got to look at who’s benefitting.”

“You can’t in four weeks get to the bottom of something,” Gohmert added.

The Texas congressman then said, “If someone got money for trying to destroy a righteous man, there’s a place called prison.”

Rep. Gohmert then chided the Democrats’ condescension towards Christians, saying, “This is a brilliant man, a very, very smart man and it comes back to the condescension that came with Obama that you cling to your God and your guns as if that somehow makes you less intelligent.”

Gohmert concluded that the “establishment is scared of a principled guy like Moore.”
