House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said bonuses–up to $2,000–that companies are handing out as a result of President Trump’s tax reform plan are “crumbs” but praised former President Barack Obama’s $40 tax cut for workers in 2011.
“In terms of the bonus that corporate America received versus the crumbs that they are giving to workers to kind of put the schmooze on — it’s so pathetic,” Pelosi said Thursday, according to Fox News. “I think it’s insignificant.”
Many companies, such as AT&T and Fiat Chrysler, gave their employees bonuses ranging from $1,000 to $2,000 in anticipation of the tax savings from Trump’s tax plan that would lower the corporate tax rate to 21 percent.
But the California Democrat sang a different tune in 2011 when the Obama administration passed a $40 tax cut for workers, praising it as a “victory for all Americans”:

“The American people spoke out clearly and, thanks to President Obama’s leadership, 160 million Americans will continue to receive their payroll tax cut – nearly $40 per paycheck in the pockets of the average family,” Pelosi said in 2011. “I salute the work of the unified House Democratic caucus on behalf of the American people.”
The Washington Times reported that at least two million U.S. workers received some kind of bonus, pay raise, or 401(k) match from their employer after Trump’s tax reform package became law.
