A Super PAC that supports West Virginia Attorney General Patrick Morrisey announced on Tuesday that it has raised $700,000, bolstering Morrisey’s chances to defeat Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) in the 2018 midterm election.

Morrisey announced last week that his campaign raised more than $737,000 for the fourth quarter of 2017 with over $1.1 million cash-on-hand. Morrisey raised $1.41 million in the last two quarters since the West Virginia attorney general entered the race for U.S. Senate.

Combined with the Super PAC fundraising, pro-Morrisey forces have raised more than $2 million in the primary with a total $1.7 million cash-on-hand.

Rep. Evan Jenkins (R-WV), Morrisey’s primary opponent, has experienced continually dwindling fundraising. In the third quarter of 2017, Morrisey tripled Jenkin’s $221,000 in fundraising.

Morrisey said, “I’m grateful for the outpouring of support in this race. Voters and activists are rallying to our conservative message, and we will not let them down. I am committed to standing up to the liberals in Washington and fighting for our West Virginia values just as I have done as Attorney General.”

“With Evan Jenkins’ liberal record, lack of grassroots, and limited fundraising capacity to take on the incumbent, Jenkins is now running to be a spoiler since he cannot defeat Sen. Manchin,” Morrisey added.

35th PAC Executive Director D.J. Eckert said that the fundraising announcements make the West Virginia attorney general  “the strongest possible candidate to beat Senator Manchin in November.”

Eckert continued, “Our organization will have the resources necessary to independently communicate Attorney General Morrisey’s proven record as a strong conservative leader who will support President Trump’s agenda and stand up for West Virginia values in Washington.”

Morrisey also slammed Sen. Manchin in an exclusive statement to Breitbart News, arguing that “President Trump is exactly right,” that Manchin “pretended to stand with West Virginians but then voted with Chuck Schumer” on tax reform.

Morrisey told Breitbart News, “President Trump is exactly right.  On every issue that truly mattered to West Virginia — such as opposing Hillary, Obama, cap & trade, Planned Parenthood, and higher taxes— Joe Manchin pretended to stand with West Virginians, but then voted with Chuck Schumer and the liberal D.C. Democratic leadership. Joe Manchin is a classic ‘say one thing do another’ politician.”
