White House National Security Adviser Gen. H.R. McMaster declined to say whether he was planning to leave Donald Trump’s administration.

“I have a job, and it is my intention to go as long and as hard as I can in service of the President and the nation in this job,” he told reporters on Tuesday when asked about his intentions.

CNN reported two weeks ago that McMaster was rumored to leave the administration, as White House encouraged aides thinking of leaving to do so by the end of January.

McMaster did not deny the report but signaled his interest in staying.

“It’s a tremendous honor to do this job every day — to advance and protect the interests of the American people,” McMaster said.

McMaster will travel with President Trump to Davos, Switzerland to discuss national security issues with the global elite attending the World Economic Forum.

Trump loyalists have questioned McMaster’s commitment to the president, especially after reports surfaced that he dismissed Trump as an “idiot” and a “dope” in private conversations.

After Deputy National Security Adviser Dina Powell resigned in December, McMaster chose Nadia Schadlow to replace her.
