Authorities on Thursday found the body of a researcher who worked for the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). The man went missing seven weeks ago, investigators said.
The Fulton County Medical Examiner announced Thursday that authorities found the body of Timothy Cunningham, 35, in the Chattahoochee River and believe Cunningham died of drowning, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.
Investigators said no foul play is suspected in his death.
Cunningham was last seen leaving the CDC February 12 after telling colleagues he was not feeling well.
In the days after his disappearance, authorities scoured nearby forests, hospitals, jails, and cemeteries. They also flew over the area in a helicopter in hopes of finding him dead or alive.
Cunningham’s family and police officers found his wallet; keys; cell phone; vehicle; and his dog, Mr. Bojangles, inside his home in northwest Atlanta.
Cunningham’s whereabouts were unknown until two fishermen discovered a body in the Chattahoochee River Tuesday and called 911, police said. Investigators said Thursday that they identified the body as Cunningham.
Cunningham worked as an epidemiologist in the chronic disease unit at the CDC and graduated from Morehouse College and Harvard University.
