President Donald Trump hosted an event at the White House on Wednesday promoting youth sports, stepping into a batting cage and stopping by a golf workshop during his visit.
“You know that sports teach young people the value of patience, and perseverance, hard work, and determination,” Trump said during his speech at the event. “You also know these experiences can’t be replicated on a cell phone or a game console; they really have to be learned and lived on the field of practice, with lots of sweat, lots of hard work, and lots of determination.”
Members of Trump’s Council on Sports, Fitness and Nutrition attended the event, working with area school children to hone their skills.
The president stepped into a temporary batting cage set up on the South Lawn and swung at a few pitches and also joined a group practicing their golf swings.

White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders was also spotted at the event, throwing some football passes to some of the children at the workshop.

Trump’s daughter Ivanka was there as well and threw a pass to former NFL star running back Herschel Walker, who caught it.

“He was a big supporter right from the beginning,” Trump said about Walker. “It’s always good when they know you and they support you. If they know you and they don’t support you, that’s trouble. Right?”
