Pope Francis urges Catholic bishops in the United States to open the doors of the Church to immigrants, asserting that “these people will enrich America and its Church. As a Latin American, the Pope apologized for “pleading my own case,” when speaking about the influx of Hispanic immigrants into the United States. He also thanked the bishops for the work they have done for immigrants in this country.

The Obama administration is launching a pilot program to provide illegal immigrant families released in the U.S. with social workers who could help them access housing, education, medical services and legal assistance. Jesuit ‘America’ Stresses: Pope Francis Acknowledges Church Teaching Authorizes Criticism of Capitalism

The Jesuit publication America adds that Pope Francis, who is also a Jesuit, “went on to state firmly” that: “My doctrine on all this, on the ‘Laudato Si’ (the encyclical on ‘the common home’), on the economic imperialism, and all that, is the Church’s social doctrine.” When an American journalist reported to the Pope that more than 50 dissidents had been arrested outside the nunciature in Cuba while attempting to meet with the Pope, Francis reportedly responded, “I don’t have any news that that has happened. A new Bloomberg Poll, conducted by legendary Iowa pollster Ann Selzer, finds Hillary Clinton the choice of just 33% of Democrats nationwide. Vice President Joe Biden, who isn’t yet a candidate, is backed by 25% of Democrats. Vermont socialist Sen. Bernie Sanders is third with 24% support. Clinton’s support is the lowest ever in the race for the Democrat nomination.

Though Clinton, the Democratic front-runner, has refrained from bashing Biden in public, the competition between the former First Lady and the current vice president has the makings of a steel-cage match. President Obama Promotes Political Agenda During Welcome of Pope Francis

President Obama welcomed Pope Francis warmly to the White House today, but he didn’t hold back his attempt to shape the Holy Father’s teachings to fit his own agenda. Obama told Pope Francis of his own experience as a community organizer and his time in Kenya, explaining that “I’ve seen firsthand how, every day, Catholic communities, priests, nuns, and laity feed the hungry, heal the sick, shelter the homeless, educate our children, and fortify the faith that sustains so many.”
