Natalie Portman Finds Recession 'An Exciting Time'

Will someone fluent in Marie Antoinette-ese explain to me the words that are coming out of Ms. Portman’s mouth:

“I think it’s kind of an exciting time. I mean, everyone is cutting back. It’s happening in every industry – including our own. All of a sudden, people are doing jobs that they hate and they’re not making as much money as they thought they would or they’ve lost their jobs entirely. I’ve started to see people looking more toward their own passions and what really excites them.”

Methinks someone got the Hollywood Talking Points. They must read something like: When Obama President Recession Good, which is probably number four after:

1. Who’s Cindy Sheehan?

2. What’s rendition?

3. Gay marriage = just keep bashing Mormons.

Maybe framing this is as a politically savvy statement is giving Portman too much credit. Maybe she really does find the thought of people “cutting back,” working “jobs they hate” or losing “their jobs entirely” an exciting time… You know, all the exciting foreclosure signs and long lines under a hot sun in front of the mission.

Then again, maybe you can be too famous, too privileged, too pretty and too rich for too long…

Either way, this is why movie stars need handlers. This is why there are no movie stars anymore.
