Netflix Stock Hits 52-Week Low After It Cancels DVD-Streaming Split
That’s because Qwikster’s not the problem; it’s just a symptom of Netflix’s ongoing stupidity. Allowing people to opt out of the by-mail service and keep the streaming is the problem. They’ve hastened the death of half their business model and DVD in general. How many people would order Oprah’s lame network if it wasn’t a part of a package of channels people really want? Same theory here.

More Theatres Threaten to Hold Up ‘Tower Heist’
Instead of throwing tantrums against the dying of the light, why don’t these theatre owners start investing in the burgeoning technologies that will inevitably alter their business forever? One theatre owner obviously understands this when he says pay-per-view is “a dagger to our business.”
Well, no kidding. But instead of attempting to muscle the studios — which will only backfire — get proactive and ahead of the business curve so you’re prepared for when it happens.
I guess they expect Willie Nelson to put on benefit concerts and the government to bail them out. Which, in this environment, isn’t as funny as it sounds.

LAST NIGHT’S SCREENING
Yeah, that’s right, I watched ‘The Lion King’ again. What of it? Wife says it keeps me quiet when she needs to get things done around the house. “The Lion King,” those little graham crackers shaped like teddy bears, and a juice box keep me plenty entertained.
I also took full advantage of Blockbuster’s 5 for $20 previously-viewed Blu-ray deal. Yep, perfectly good Blu-ray movies for four bucks a pop. I walked out of the store as the proud owner of “The Expendables,” “The Last Exorcist,’ “Paranormal Activity,” “King’s Speech,” “Piranha,” “Resident Evil: Afterlife,” “The Social Network,” and a few titles I’m embarrassed to admit to because I get a little screwy around the aroma of DVD cases.

2:00 AM EST: All the King’s Men (1949) — A backwoods politician rises to the top only to become corrupted. Dir: Robert Rossen Cast: Broderick Crawford, John Ireland, Joanne Dru. BW-110 mins, TV-PG, CC.
Terrific Best Picture winner and political drama. Compare this to the awful political dramas Hollywood’s been released lately. Contrary to those geniuses at the “L.A. Times,” partisan politics are not the key to this film’s status as a classic.
