Hannibal Lecter Is Focus of New TV Series

What an awful idea.

There’s a reason Anthony Hopkins only appeared in 16 minutes of “Silence of the Lambs.” The strength of this character is Lecter’s mystery. The same is true for “Manhunter” where Brain Cox’s equally brilliant depiction of the serial killer loomed just as large, even though he was only seen in a few scenes. To jump on the “Dexter” bandwagon just isn’t going to work for Lecter. The moment you demystify him, you lose him.

Holograms? 3D forever?

A lot of this has to do with pirating. You can’t whip out a camcorder and record a 3D film. The picture is a mess. That part of it I understand.

But we’re now in, what, the third or fourth year of this new 3D “craze”? And all that’s happened is that Hollywood is having an awful year. The secret to box office is storytelling, not computers. Nothing will change that fact, and if Hollywood thinks they can rely on the crutch of technology to save them from the hard work of telling a simple story in a compelling way, things are only going to get worse.

‘Stairway to Heaven’ Turns 40 — Let’s Retire It!

The only thing more tired than “Stairway to Heaven” are the jokes trashing it.
