Left-wing Muppets to Present Oscar at Academy Awards

Kermit better get his tuxedo pressed.

The green guy and his on-again, off-again squeeze Miss Piggy will present an award during the Feb. 26 Academy Awards telecast.

According to the press release, “Hollywood icons Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy will present at the 84th Academy Awards … Their place in motion picture and television history has been cemented for decades, as evidenced by their well-deserved invitation to be presenters at this year’s Academy Awards ceremony.”

The announcement comes right after the news that Cirque du Soleil will be performing at the show this year, a decision that has left plenty of people scratching their heads.

So, after a short-lived campaign to get the Muppets to host the Oscars, the Academy has decided to meet fans halfway and make them part of the show. Odds on them presenting Best Animated Feature are 1:1.

Kermit and Miss Piggy entered the culture wars when their new film “The Muppets,” used an evil oil tycoon as the main villain. The felt-covered stars further enmeshed themselves in the ideological trenches when they (or, to be more accurate, their respective muppeteers) used a promotional press conference to slam Fox News.

Can we expect more of the same on Oscar night?
