'Cabin' Co-Star Whitford Mocks Thatcher, Palin in Horror Q&A

Bradley Whitford just ignored a golden rule of movie promotions – don’t insult roughly half your audience.

Whitford, the “West Wing” alum currently promoting the new horror film “The Cabin in the Woods,” was asked by EW.com to name check some very scary movies.

“Cabin” deconstructs the horror genre, embracing the cliches running wild in modern horror movies to make a larger point about these films.

Most “Cabin” mates picked the obvious choices, from the sublimely silly “Evil Dead” to the neo-classic shocker “The Descent.”

Whitford decided to go cutesy – and political.

The biopic of Margaret Thatcher — for which Meryl Streep won the Best Actress Award at this year’s Oscars — would seem to be even less of a horror movie than Jaws. But it still gave goosebumps to Cabin actor, and Democratic campaigner Bradley Whitford. ”Scared the s— out of me,” says the West Wing vet. ”She doesn’t deserve to be [played by Meryl Streep]. It’s like Sarah Palin does not deserve to be played by Julianne Moore.”

Ha. Ha.

Not funny. Not clever. But certainly alienating to movie goers who like and respect those political figures. “The Cabin in the Woods” got entangled in the MGM bankruptcy case and took years to hit the big screen. Here’s wondering what the powers that be behind the movie think of Whitford’s shtick.
