Obama Fundraises with Celeb Elite While Economy Crumbles

President Barack Obama is spending his time these days hobnobbing with the likes of George Clooney, Tobey Maguire and Dave Matthews at posh fundraisers where the entrance fee can be as high as $40,000. Meanwhile, the nation’s economic news keeps getting worse, and the debt continues to soar.

If you think the Out of Touch meter just hit red in Hollywood, you’re right.

In 2008, Sen. John McCain meekly attempted to play the celebrity card against then-Sen. Obama. Yes, Obama had Hollywood on his side, but he also didn’t have a presidential record to run on. At the time, hope and change apparently was enough for voters who didn’t revolt against Tinsel Town’s support of the young senator.

Now, it’s 2012, and the most transparent, hopeful presidency has turned into a sour, mean-spirited campaign filled with attacks against the rich intermingled with tony fundraisers attended by the very same one percenters.

Now, Sarah Jessica Parker is getting in on the action.

The “Sex and the City” star’s new ad for Obama, an appeal to attend her upcoming presidential fundraiser, is enough to make your teeth ache. She touts Obama as “that guy” who ended the war in Iraq (neglecting to mention the Surge which Obama opposed), who wants gay people to marry (which he declared for roughly one month of his presidency and is unwilling to lift a finger to make happen) and who created four million new jobs (do we need to even say why this is absurd?).

US Weekly runs a regular feature to show A-listers and reality stars alike are “just like us.” We see celebrities buying coffee, caring for their kids and doing other mundane chores. But these Obama backers aren’t like us. They can’t be bothered to even process the latest economic headlines while writing staggering checks to the man who promised the rest of us a robust recovery.
