Where's the Outrage: Down Syndrome Group's Silent Over Cho's Use of 'R' Word

Groups advocating for the mentally disabled have told us – repeatedly – in recent years that the word “retard” is offensive and shouldn’t be used.

Tell that to Margaret Cho.

The far-left comedienne recently appeared on Bravo TV’s “Watch What Happens Live” talk show with host Andy Cohen to discuss, among other things, the possibility of having a baby someday.

“My period comes like twice a month. My eggs are jumping ship,” she said. “Seriously, they’re like, ‘the last one out’s a retard.”

“I get worried about that, as an older woman, I don’t necessarily want to have a retard,” she said.

Pretty offensive, no doubt. So why hasn’t there been any outrage from the very same groups which told us not to use the word “retard” in this context?

Breitbart News reached out to four separate groups which advocate for people with Down syndrome – one national organization and three city-specific chapters. Did they have a reaction to Cho’s appearance? Anger? Outrage? Sadness?

How ’bout crickets? None of the groups bothered to respond.

This isn’t the first time advocacy groups stayed silent when a left of center performer did something outrageous. When Bill Maher unleashed the following hateful rant Breitbart News got a similar reaction:

“And when I point out that Sarah Palin is a vainglorious braggart, a liar, a whiner, a professional victim, a scold, a know-it-all, a chiseler, a bully who sells patriotism like a pimp, and the leader of a strange family of inbred weirdos straight out of ‘The Hills Have Eyes,’ that’s not sexist. I’m saying it because it’s true, not because it’s true of a woman.”

The silence emanating from these organizations in both cases speaks volumes.
