Daniel Tosh Apologizes for Rape Joke

Daniel Tosh makes a living by pulverizing the envelope on his Comedy Central series “Tosh.0.”

His humor dabbles in racial, gender and societal stereotypes, and rarely does anyone blow the whistle on his wise cracking. But when a customer at a recent Tosh stand-up performance took offense at Tosh hurling a rape joke her way – and the incident hit social media - the comic begrudgingly Tweeted her an apology.

The post, titled “A Girl Walks Into A Comedy Club,” begins, “This is something that happened to a friend of mine in her own words.” What follows is a disturbing account of the “Tosh.0″ star’s performance last Friday at The Laugh Factory, written from the point of view of an anonymous female in attendance. The author claims that, after Tosh made “some very generalizing, declarative statements about rape jokes always being funny,” she shouted back, “Actually, rape jokes are never funny!” That’s when things allegedly got ugly:

Tosh then aimed a rape joke directly at the female heckler, and she stormed out of the venue in response.

The comic either sincerely felt like he stepped over the line, or someone in his PR camp told him an apology might be the best damage control money can buy.
