Hollywood to the Rescue: Johansson, Portman Grab Speaking Roles at DNC

When times are tough, presidents try to implement new policies, seek input from trusted colleagues or simply use the bully pulpit to assuage the nation.

In President Barack Obama’s case, tough times require drastic action. Call in the celebrities.

This week’s Democratic National Convention lineup will include speaking roles for actresses Scarlett Johansson (“The Avengers”), Natalie Portman (“Black Swan”) and Kerry Washington (ABC’s “Scandal”).

A source told the news network the trio, all vocal supporters of President Barack Obama, would appear on stage together after a performance by the Foo Fighters.

It’s the latest sign Clint Eastwood’s appearance at the RNC last week left a mark. While Eastwood is a screen icon known for his blue-collar work ethic on set, this trio of actresses bring far less gravitas and star power.

Update: The Huffington Post reports Portman’s rep says she will “NOT” be attending the DNC.
