Nicolas Cage Cast in 'Left Behind' Reboot

Reboot-obsessed Hollywood is taking a second look at a low-budget franchise with a spiritual edge.

The “Left Behind” films hardly took the box office by storm, but that isn’t stopping some of the creative team from the franchise from trying again.

And it looks like they might have Oscar-winner Nicolas Cage to anchor their reboot.

Paul Lalonde, the writer and producer of the original set of movies, and John Patus, who worked on the final entry 2005’s Left Behind: World at War, have written a screenplay and are hoping to take the movie series in a more mainstream direction and are eyeing a budget in the $15 million range.

It’s hardly the only high profile Hollywood project with a faith-based component. Will Smith is attached to a “Cain and Abel” feature while Russell Crowe is currently shooting “Noah” with director Darren Aronofsky of “Black Swan” fame.
