Kelly Clarkson: My Gay Friends Can't Marry if Romney Wins

Singer Kelly Clarkson told an English newspaper that while she is still a Republican, she will be voting for President Barack Obama in 2012 because of Mitt Romney’s stance on gay marriage.

“I’ve been reading online about the debates and I’m probably going to vote for Obama again, even though I’m a Republican at heart,” Clarkson told the UK’s Daily Star. “I can’t support Romney’s policies as I have a lot of gay friends and I don’t think it’s fair they can’t get married.”

Clarkson said she is “not a hardcore feminist but we can’t be going back to the 50s.”

While Obama “evolved” on gay marriage earlier this year, the President still supported a federalist approach to the issue. He said while he personally supported gay marriage, the issue was up the states to decide, which means Clarkson’s gay friends in non-liberal states will not be able to get married under Obama unless he evolves again on the issue.
