Ukrainian Politician Slurs Kunis as 'Dirty Jewess'

A prominent opposition politician in Ukraine has labeled actress Mila Kunis a “zhydovka,” which means “dirty Jewess.” Igor Miroschnichenko is a high-ranking lawmaker from the Svoboda Party, which has joined with the Ukrainian opposition endorsed by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. “She is not Ukrainian, she is a Jewess by birth,” wrote Miroschnichenko. “She is proud of this and the Star of David … she says nothing and expresses nothing positive about the country in which she was born. I can’t bring myself to say she is Ukrainian. Let her love America or Israel, people must not attach her to the Ukraine.”

The Ukrainian Ministry of Justice, which normally prosecutes racial slurs, says that this isn’t a racial slur. The Simon Wiesenthal Center in Los Angeles protested its “outrage and indignation against the slanders of the Svoboda Party directed against the Jewish community in the Ukraine … Mila Kunis’ family … left the Ukraine in the first place because of anti-Semitism.”
