Sensei’s call streak extended to 14 weeks last week. It’s very close at the top this week with a number of films that could win.
Sensei’s weekend predictions and revenue results go as follows.
1. “The Hobbit” ($20 million) -Film will be locked in a close battle with “Django Unchained” for thetop spot. Look for this horse race to be close, and it could easily goeither way.
2. “Django Unchained” ($19.2 million) -Normally, Quentin Tarantino films experience big drops their secondweekends. Despite this, film will be in a pitched battle for the topposition.
3. “Les Misérables” ($16 million) -Film’s marketing was spot on, and no political sucker punches in thefilm has served it well. Breitbart News also had some great analysis on the film’s success here. After such a strong holiday performance, lookfor a decent hold and an easy break of the $100 million domestic mark. Film’s place among the history’s most successful film musicals will easilybe solidified.
4. “Texas Chainsaw 3D” ($15.2 million) – Lastyear, “The Devil Inside” did well during this same weekend. That horrorfilm had strong marketing, however. This one has minimal marketing andmay not even appeal to regular “Texas Chainsaw” fans. Look formid-level results.
5. “Parental Guidance” ($9 million) – Pretty much has family audiences to themselves. Should help the film break the $50 million domestic mark.
In other calls:
“Promised Land“ ($5 million) -Early critical reviews indicate another preachy political mess. Asshown in the past, audiences have no patients for these type of films. With these reasons in mind, “Promised Land” will flop considerably. Strike upanother box office disappointment for actor Matt Damon (why do they keepgiving him movies, again?).
