The Avengers did more than conquer the box office competition last year. The superhero extravaganza proved both patriotic and spiritually uplifting, helping it earn top honors during the 2013 Movieguide Faith & Values Awards Gala Friday night.
The film’s embrace of good versus evil and gentle affirmation of faith, along with its rock ’em, sock ’em action, helped it land Movieguide’s best mature audience film award.
Ice Age: Continental Drift, featuring the voices of Ray Romano, Denis Leary and John Leguizamo, was honored as last year’s best family film.
Lincoln, a film expected to battle Argo for Best Picture honors at the Feb. 24 Academy Awards presentation, wasn’t singled out in Movieguide’s awards.
The annual awards recognized the message Andrew Breitbart wanted to share when he created Big Hollywood – entertainment influences more than just our leisure time.
The evening’s host, Dr. Ted Baehr, chairman of the Christian Film and Television Commission, began the procedures by telling the audience that five times more Americans attend church than go to the movies, but that film and television have an outsize impact on children – a point he illustrated with video of a child imitating Michael Jackson.
