(AFP) The Temptations, one of Motown’s most successful acts, has lost a second former member in less than a fortnight with the death of Richard Street, US news media reported Thursday.
Street, 70, died Wednesday in a Las Vegas hospital where doctors found a clot in one of his lungs after he complained of breathing difficulties, his wife Cindy Street told CNN.
“He was part of black history,” she said. “He was always proud of that. He sang on a lot of those classic songs: ‘Papa Was a Rollin’ Stone,’ ‘Hey Girl,’ ‘Heavenly,’ ‘Superstar,’ ‘Masterpiece.'”
Street was with the ensemble from 1971 through 1993.
Another member of The Temptations, Otis “Damon” Harris, died February 18 in his hometown of Baltimore at the age of 62. He had been with the group for four years from 1971.
The Temptations have sold millions of records since it was founded by Motown in 1960. They continue to tour under the leadership of Otis Williams, the only remaining member of the original line-up.
