Voice of Elmo Wants Lawsuits Dismissed, Cites Statute of Limitations

Sexual abuse allegations caused Kevin Clash to quit as the voice of Elmo on Sesame Street.

Clash’s legal woes are still haunting the puppeteer, but he says the law is on his side

Clash has just filed a motion to dismiss the three lawsuits filed against him by Cecil Singleton and two other unidentified men.According to Clash, the statute of limitations on the sexually-motivated crimes he’s accused of committing is six years — and the crimes in each instance allegedly occurred more than ten years ago.

Clash resigned from the popular children’s show in November after a 28-year run. His path from a modest upbringing in Maryland to the heights of the muppet realm was captured in the 2011 documentary Being Elmo: A Puppeteer’s Journey.
