Hugh Grant Slams PM David Cameron for Siding with Press in Phone Hacking Debate

Hugh Grant is best known for his stammering, bemused characters in movies like Notting Hill and Four Weddings and a Funeral.

The actor proved that’s simply a cinematic concoction with his latest essay, written for UK’s The Observer. Seems Grant, the victim of a phone hacker, is more than miffed that his own government isn’t acting strongly to stop future attacks on people’s privacy.

Grant wrote in today’s Observer that Cameron is choosing press barons like Murdoch over the public with his support of a bill that lets the newspaper industry “continue to mark its own homework.” He wrote that, for Cameron, “Staying on good terms with Rupert Murdoch is more important” than standing up for “thousands of members of the public who have been trashed in Britain’s newspapers.”
