PTC Study Shows Massive Gun Violence Across Broadcast TV

A new study by the Parents Television Council found high levels of gun violence on television in the weeks after Vice President Joe Biden essentially excused the entertainment industry from blame for recent gun massacres.

The study, which focused on media violence collected from all primetime broadcast programs that aired between January 11 and Feb. 11, found that of the 392 shows examined, 193, nearly half, contained violence; 121, almost a third, contained violence and guns.

“The results of our research demonstrate that Hollywood continues to be deaf to the cries for ending a media culture awash in blood,” said PTC President Tim Winter in a statement. “The notion that the entertainment industry is somehow being ‘responsible’ with the volume and degree of violence it is producing and distributing is laughable.”

The study found 934 individual scenes of violence, including 305 that included guns. The programs in question were all rated TV-PG or TV-14, meaning the content was appropriate for children ages 14 and up.
