IMF Censors Film Clip Critical of Russian Gas Policies

Director Phelim McAleer pulled out of a conference wrapping up today after one of his film clips got snipped from the schedule.

McAleer, the co-director of FrackNation, submitted several clips to a D.C.-based conference organized by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and Oxford University about international commodity prices. The organizers refused to show a segment that criticized Russia’s manipulation of gas supplies in Eastern Europe. In order to show the clip, the organizers argued, they’d have to include a counterpoint to the clip’s assertions.

Since that wasn’t possible, the clip couldn’t be shown. McAleer decided to withdraw from the event in protest.

“It’s actually unbelievable that a conference by IMF and Oxford would want to censor one of their speakers to protect one of the wealthiest countries in the world,” McAleer said. “Do people really want to go to a conference where opinions on powerful people are censored?”
