NatGeo likes being in the Bill O’Reilly business.
The cable channel struck ratings gold with Killing Lincoln, the television adaptation of the Fox News host’s popular historical book. Now, the channel has bought the rights to produce the TV version of the traditional pundit’s Killing Jesus, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Killing Jesus: A History, which won’t be out on book shelves until September, tells the story of Jesus up through the crucifixion.
O’Reilly, who will serve as executive producer on Killing Jesus, is still in the process of writing the book with researcher and partner Dugard. Production on the film is scheduled to begin in the fall.
The move makes sense for NatGeo given O’Reilly’s strong brand as well as the solid ratings for Killing Lincoln. Plus, religious-themed content is hot right now, especially in the wake of The History Channel’s record-setting miniseries The Bible.
NatGeo already has the TV adaptation of Killing Kennedy: The End of Camelot by O’Reilly and co-author Martin Dugard in development.
