'S.W.A.T.' Star Steve Forrest Dead at 87

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif., May 23 (UPI)–Actor Steve Forrest, who played Lieutenant Dan “Hondo” Harrelson on the 1970s TV series “S.W.A.T.,” has died in Thousand Oaks, Calif., his family said.

The Texas native and World War II veteran was 87 when he died May 18.

The Hollywood Reporter Wednesday confirmed his death, but did not report the cause of it.

Forrest also starred in the BBC series “The Baron,” as well as the films “The Longest Day,” “So Big,” “Prisoner of War,” “Rogue Cop,” “It Happened to Jane,” “Flaming Star,” “Heller in Pink Tights,” “Mommie Dearest” and “Spies Like Us.” He was also known for his memorable TV guest spots on the original “Dallas,” “The Virginian,” “Bonanza” and “Gunsmoke.”

He is survived by Christine, his wife of 65 years; and sons Michael, Forrest and Stephen.

The Hollywood Reporter said a service will be held May 30 at Pierce Brothers Valley Oaks Griffin Memorial Park in Westlake Village, Calif.
