Studio Behind 'Red 2' Supports Mashup Trailer Featuring Obama's NSA Defense

Someone, somewhere made a clever new spot for the upcoming Red 2 using clips of President Barack Obama defending the current NSA domestic spying scandal  to promote the new film.

The faux trailer to the film, a sequel to the surprise 2010 hit, features President Barack Obama discussing both the current NSA scandal and national security matters. It’s all tied together into the film’s story, another tale of secret agents working together to keep our country safe.

Obama obviously has no direct connection with the film, and Summit told Breitbart News via a press liaison that it had nothing to do with the video snippet. The studio, though, won’t object if it’s spread far and wide across the web.

Even those exhausted by the president’s maneuvers would be hard press to find the clips insulting. It’s done in a similar cheeky tone to the franchise with no overt political message on display. The subtext, however, is another matter. The clip reminds voters of the disparity between recent NSA headlines and Obama’s past comments blasting the Bush administration for spying on innocent Americans.

Red 2 opens nationwide July 19.
