Comic-Con Rewind: Batman to Battle Superman, Avengers Meet Their Next Foe

Comic-Con Rewind: Batman to Battle Superman, Avengers Meet Their Next Foe

It’s tempting to treat the news coming out of Comic-Con like the high school cheerleader might the advances of the chess club president.

After all, such Comic-Con faves like Snakes on a Plane and this summer’s Pacific Rim haven’t matched their fanboy hype with box office results.

Comic-Con Nation does understand one thing perfectly clear–superhero films still matter. So the biggest news out of this weekend’s San Diego-based convention concerned a certain Caped Crusader and his Steely peer.

Man of Steel director Zack Snyder told the fanboy crowd over the weekend that a movie featuring both Batman and Superman is in the works.

The other comic book movie news of note: The next installment of the Avengers franchise, set to bow in 2015, will be called Avengers: Age of Ultron.

Ultron is a robot created by scientist Henry Pym, also known as Ant Man, which possesses an artificial intelligence beyond the scope of his creator.

The rest of the Comic-Con gathering let film studios promote their upcoming projects, from sequels to Captain America and Thor to a trailer for the upcoming season of the AMC smash zombie series The Walking Dead. The event even let less geek-friendly fare into the equation, including panels on the CBS sitcom How I Met Your Mother to a first look at the Veronica Mars film.

The event still draws a crowd, from the throngs of fans (more than 130,000 attendees) to major stars like Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jamie Foxx, Hugh Jackman and Samuel L. Jackson.
