Variety: 'Elysium' Pushes 'Openly Socialist Political Agenda'

Trailers for the new movie Elysium suggest a hard-left storyline involving class warfare, and the film’s official web site mocks the notion of immigration control.

Seems the movie itself follows up with that liberal agenda, according to Variety.

The industry publication’s review of the new Matt Damon feature calls it openly socialist–even by Hollywood standards.

[Elysium] advance[s] one of the more openly socialist political agendas of any Hollywood movie in memory, beating the drum loudly not just for universal healthcare, but for open borders, unconditional amnesty and the abolition of class distinctions as well. But [director Neill] Blomkamp never makes it clear how, if overpopulation and pollution are what got us into this mess in the first place, moving everyone up to Elysium would make for a sustainable solution; he just wants us to take it on faith that it would.

Lest we forget Blomkamp thinks it would be unjust should people perceive him as a politically charged filmmaker.

Elysium, opening Aug. 9 nationwide, stars Damon as a dying member of the underclass who tries to infiltrate a space station inhabited by the uber-rich to save his life.
