Mark Wahlberg: Studios Pulling Wool Over Audiences' Eyes with Effects-Heavy Blockbusters

Mark Wahlberg thinks news outlets are unfairly scrutinizing some of the summer’s wannabe blockbusters. The 2 Guns star isn’t going so far as to blame reporters for the failure of films like The Lone Ranger as that movie’s stars recently did.

Wahlberg says today’s movie studios are pouring millions into special effects for movies that aren’t so … special.

They are spending so much money to pull the wool over the audience’s eyes with these effects-driven movies,” he said.

Wahlberg is working on a fourth Transformers film, and he says director Michael Bay is wisely focusing on his character’s relationship with his on-screen daughter to ground the film’s sensational elements. Bay is also making every last penny count without going dramatically over budget, as The Lone Ranger project did.

And as for that ill-fated oater, the actor isn’t quite sure why it cost so darn much.
