PBS 'Superheroes' Panelists Celebrate Obama's Love for Spider-man

During the Television Critics Association summer press tour event, panelists discussing the resurgence of superheroes stated that Spider-man has a rather famous fan: Barack Obama.

There was no explanation for why Obama would identify with the sticky superhero whose spidersense helps him avoid dangerous situations and climb up walls to escape danger while the people are beneath him.

The panelists included Michael Kantor, the executive producer of the upcoming PBS documentary series Superheroes: A Never Ending Battle, a new documentary series tracing the history of comic heroes; Spider-man writer Gerry Conway; Spawn creator Todd McFarlane; and Wolverine creator Len Wein.

Kantor admitted that his project received funding from The National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) and the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH), and insisted that because the series could reach younger people, “they’ll learn something” about American history .
