While the Washington Navy Yard shooting, the Aurora theater attack, and other mass shootings furthered calls for more gun control from many liberals, other gun control advocates voiced their hope that NRA leadership, members, and members’ children were killed.
For example, comedian Dan Nainan tweeted his desire that a mass shooting take place “at the offices of the NRA.”
Nainan’s tweet said: “There’s one place I wouldn’t mind seeing a mass shooting, and that’s at the offices of the NRA.”
He originally sent the tweet months ago, but it did not draw attention until the recent criticism heaped on the NRA following the Navy Yard shooting and the ongoing push for more gun control.
This same longing for tragedy to befall the NRA was expressed by actress Marg Helgenberger, “who retweeted a message hoping that NRA members are shot dead,” and by a Texas Democrat Party Executive Committee member named John Gobarruvias.
Gobarruvias was forced to apologize after he tweeted: “Can we now shoot the #NRA and everyone who defends them?”
These lovely expressions of tolerance were recently joined by comments from University of Kansas journalism professor David Guth. After the Navy Yard shooting, Guth tweeted: “The blood is on the hands of the #NRA. Next time let it be YOUR sons and daughters. Shame on you. May God damn you.”
As Breitbart News reported on September 24, the University of Kansas has placed Guth on “indefinite administrative leave” but continues to pay him a salary.
