Trailer Talk: 'Out of the Furnace' Packs Oscar Bait, Not Original Premise

A new trailer for Out of the Furnace has hit the web. It’s evidence that Oscar Season is officially upon us. Prepare yourself. Check out the trailer below and some thoughts.

Out of the Furnace looks like it has a lot of good elements. Casey Affleck and Woody Harrelson both seem to be pulling off some really fine work. However, nothing screams “unique” about the movie (good song choice for the trailer, though).

It’s a very typical story on the surface that many straight to DVD flicks could give you. Christian Bale also comes off as incredibly reserved, though the studio may be strategically holding back on his performance until the movie hits.

In the end Out of the Furnace is probably going to fizzle or shine based on how much voice and originality director Scott Cooper (Crazy Heart) can bring to it.

Out of the Furnace hits theaters on December 6th.
