AMC's 'The Walking Dead' Devours Competition in Season Four Debut

AMC may have just said goodbye to its celebrated series Breaking Bad, but the cable channel got a boost from another original series Sunday.

The fourth season debut of The Walking Dead trumped its previous ratings numbers despite going up against both NFL Football and post-season baseball.

Walking Dead” returned Sunday with a monster average audience of 16.1 million viewers — more than 5 million viewers better than last year’s 10.87 million and more than double where it kicked off its second season in October 2011 (7.26 million).

The show, which stars Andrew Lincoln, Norman Reedus and Lauren Cohan, follows a group of humans trying to survive in a landscape overrun by zombies.
