Retired NYC Disc Jockey Arrested on Child Sex Charge

NEWARK, N.J., Oct. 25 (UPI)–David Herman, a popular disc jockey in New York in the 1970s, has been charged with attempting to bring a 7-year-old girl to St. Croix for sex.

Herman, 77, who has homes in Airmont, N.Y., and St. Croix in the U.S. Virgin Islands, was arrested Thursday at the airport on the Caribbean island, U.S. Attorney for New Jersey Paul Fishman said. He was allegedly expecting to meet a New York-area woman and her daughter.

The arrest was made by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents.

Investigators said Herman corresponded online with an undercover investigator for the Bergen County prosecutor’s office in New Jersey. He allegedly believed the investigator was a 36-year-old woman with a young daughter.

Herman allegedly bought plane tickets for the mother and daughter on Sept. 30.

He was scheduled to appear Friday before a U.S. magistrate in St. Croix. Fishman said he could receive a 10-year sentence if he is convicted.

Herman was a DJ for WNEW-FM in New York City in an era when FM radio was a major force in rock music.
