Beyonce is still battling outrage over her use of audio connected to a space shuttle tragedy, but she’ll likely end 2013 defending a questionable choice in Instagram imagery.
The erstwhile Mrs. Carter sent out a picture of herself lounging in front of a recreation of the famed Last Supper painting by Leonardo da Vinci. The recreation is artist Andy Warhol’s take on the spiritual painting.
The potentially insulting part is where Beyonce is seated in the frame. She’s smack dab in the middle of the picture, blocking out the image of Jesus Christ.
The staging may be accidental, but the Instagram reminds some of her famous husband’s flirtation with spiritual imagery. Jay-Z has been accused of dabbling in occult-like visuals over the years, particularly with his fashion company.
Jay-Z’s Rocawear clothing line also often draws upon Masonic symbols: pentagrams, obelisks, pyramids, the all-seeing eye.
