Innocent Until Proven Guilty … Unless You're 'Wild West Alaska' And PETA Is Gunning For You

PETA and Truth About Guns are asking Animal Planet to cut ties with Wild West Alaska because the hit show’s star, Jim West, was charged with misdemeanor hunting violations in November 2013.

PETA published the charges against West, which include being a guide for a “hunt on private land,” as a guide tied to “commit, aid, or allow violation,” as a guide tied to “take game w/ Client in Field,” for “Falsification of Bear Sealing Record,” and for failure “to Remove Black Bear Bait Station,” among others.

According to the Alaska Dispatch, the case against West is currently at a stalemate. “[West] has yet to spend much time in a courtroom and his attorney…[argues] the state has declined to provide some information critical to defending West.”

In the meantime, PETA and Truth About Guns want Wild West Alaska to end.

PETA Foundation Deputy General Counsel Delcianna Winders said: “Animal Planet cannot continue to air Wild West Alaska without sending a message that it does not value or want to protect the welfare –and the very lives–of animals. Jim West and his show need to be ejected from the airways right now.”
