Madonna is a loud and proud advocate for equal rights and is embraced by the gay community. Last year she dressed as a boy scout and savaged the group for banning gay members. In January, she joined the “love conquers hate” campaign targeting Russia’s anti-gay policies.
Said community still didn’t take kindly to her use of the word “gay” during an interview this week.
The erstwhile Material Girl played a word association game with Buzzfeed, and she labeled both kale and Vladimir Putin “gay” in terms many took as insulting.
Fans were furious over the star’s use of ‘gay’, with one commenting: ‘Saying kale is “gay” is meant to convey that she doesn’t like it, so it is an insult. I am SO TIRED of people using “gay” in a negative context.’
Another added: ‘Madonna is as culturally sensitive as a bull in a china shop. Really. She puts her foot in her mouth constantly.’
