May Ratings: 3 A.M. ‘RedEye’ Crushes Most Everything On CNN
The cable news ratings are out for the month of May. For left-wing CNN, the news was especially bad. The sinking network continues its sink. Fox News is not only humiliating CNN, things are so bad at the former-most trusted name in news that almost every CNN program is losing the ratings race to a Fox News show that airs at 3 a.m.: “RedEye with Greg Gutfeld.”
Throughout the month of May, in the all-important 25-54 age demographic, 3 a.m. “RedEye” averaged 132,000 viewers. Other than Anderson Cooper who averaged 145,000 and Michael Smercornish, who averaged 140,000, “RedEye” beat everything and everyone at CNN, sometimes by wide margins. Wolf Blitzer’s two hours averaged only 112,000 a nd 75,000. Erin Burnett could only attract 104,000. “CNN Tonight” managed only 114,00. The rest — “New Day,” “Crossfire,” “Legal View,” etc., failed to even reach 90,000.
The news was just as bad when comparing total viewers of all ages.

If the scam that is bundled cable didn’t force tens of millions of Americans to pay for CNN whether they want to or not, there’s no way CNN could survive based solely on the merit of advertising revenues which in turn are based on viewership. The affirmative action of carriage fees is what’s keeping this left-wing Welfare Queen alive.
Salon: Seth Rogen’s Tweet Proved WaPo Critic’s Point
Salon’s Andrew O’Hehir takes up Washington Post film critic Ann Hornaday’s cause in a somewhat rambling article that attempts to re-thread the needle she couldn’t. As I wrote yesterday, Hornaday pretty much admitted she was a hammer in search of a nail when she attempted to link the frat vs. comedy film “Neighbors” and the “the films of Judd Apatow” to the massacre in Santa Barbara.
Hornaday is a left-wing feminist who wants women to have more influence in Hollywood. Fair enough. But to exploit a tragic murder to nudge that cause is nothing short of sick, offensive and desperate. Hornaday is basically Piers Morgan-ing this thing; feasting off the dead to advance a cause.
Yesterday, O’Hehir comes along and claims that Rogen’s tweet to her — that read, “how dare you imply that me getting girls in movies caused a lunatic to go on a rampage” — proves her point because he is NOT LISTENING:
Rogen pretty much made Hornaday’s point for her, which is that men in the movie world (or the regular world, for that matter) don’t care to listen to feminist criticism, and treat the intensely gendered nature of mainstream entertainment as a neutral or natural fact with no significant consequences.
I don’t know Seth Rogen but I’m guessing that like most of us he would be more open to a “listen to feminist criticism” if the person expressing it wasn’t using a major national newspaper to try and blame him in part for a heinous mass murder.
And now O’Hehir would also like to talk about empowering more women in Hollywood.
This is not the way to go about it. If you want to have a discussion about, as O’Hehir puts it, “the peculiar and unhealthy gender dynamics of mainstream American cinema, a decade and a half into the 21st century,” by all means, knock yourselves out.
Movies affect the culture.
No one questions that.
But no one’s going to listen to you if engaging in this conversation means accepting anything close to the premise that comedies about slobs winning hot chicks are in any way complicit in a mass stabbing and shooting. Especially when the FACTS so clearly make that premise laughable.
Rodger left behind 100-plus pages of scribbling and a handful of YouTube videos explaining and justifying his motive.
Movies are not mentioned — not even by a guy looking for anything to blame but himself.
What is mentioned are the sight of happy couples, which enraged Rodger. Shall we start a conversation about outlawing public displays of affection? Because within the context of this particular crime, that would make more sense than pulling poor Judd Apatow into it.
Let’s just hope that Apatow and Rogen understand that Hornaday and O’Hehir represent their own on the political left and that these attacks are their own form of McCarthyism. Hornaday and O’Herir want political and cultural change and are willing to smear anyone to get it.

We’ve Lost James Cameron to The Black Hole of ‘Avatar’
As much as I hated “Avatar,” and I think the rest of the world is finally catching up with me, I love James Cameron as a filmmaker. Except for “Dances with Smurfs,” everything he’s directed has been something very special, and now, at the age of 60, he’s tied up in three(!) “Avatar” sequels and a Cirque du Soleil Live ‘Avatar’ arena show.
Muhammad Ali once fought an exhibition bout with a wrestler. Imagine if he had tied himself up fighting wrestlers for 6 of his waning prime years.
Kyle Smith Loves ‘A Million Ways to Die In the West’

I laughed more at Seth MacFarlane’s sendup of ’60s Westerns than I did at all the other comedies I’ve seen this year, combined. I even laughed as much as I did at “Noah.” MacFarlane is just passable as a leading man, but as a director and co-writer with two others he has a wider comic imagination than “Blazing Saddles.” For every so-so gag there are three genius ones.
Other than the fact that I found “Ted” hilarious, what most intrigues about “A Million Ways” is that the overall tone has Seth MacFarlane’s protagonist commenting on the action, having that self-awareness to riff on lunacy around him. Bob Hope, Groucho Marx, and Woody Allen all took this approach in their best comedies.
Box office predictions set the $40 million western comedy at a $25 million opener this weekend.
