Trailer Talk: 'Dumb and Dumber To' Finds Fresh Laughs 20 Years Later

The notion of a Dumb and Dumber sequel seemed a little sad.

Jim Carrey’s career is in free fall following a series of commercial duds and his alienating comments about gun owners. And any sequel that takes 20 or so years to happen is viewed with suspicion–at best.

Yet our first look at Dumb and Dumber To (get it?) allays some of those concerns. The finished product coudl still be a stiff, but just try not to laugh at this bawdy two-minute blast.

Carrey and Jeff Daniels reprise their infamous roles as two of the least intellectual souls to grace the big screen. The new film finds them trying to find Harry’s long lost daughter.

The plot won’t matter. Is the sight of these two actors acting impossibly stupid still funny? The trailer isn’t perfect, but so far the answer is … yup, assuming you don’t mind crass gags aplenty.

Could Carrey’s off-screen antics derail the good times? He failed to promote his last film, Kick-Ass 2, after objecting to its violent content after the fact. Has he shattered the good will his rubbery antics created over the years?

Dumb and Dumber To may be the ultimate test for Carrey’s future career prospects. The film hits theaters Nov. 14.
