DC Comics Bans Child's Memorial from Featuring 'Superman' Logo

A memorial aimed at honoring a Toronto boy who longed to fly just like Superman won’t have that character’s signature “S” on it.

Five-year-old Jeffrey Baldwin died at the hands of his abusive grandparents. A local artist is creating a memorial to remember the boy’s life, but DC Comics will not permit the use of its Superman imagery on it, according to Fox News.

Todd Boyce, an Ottawa father moved by Jeffrey’s death, raised money for the monument and recruited Ontario artist Ruth Abernathy to design it, The Canadian Press reports….But DC Entertainment, home to the comic book hero and several others, has grounded that wish, telling Boyce they didn’t want the character connected in any way to child abuse.

Young Baldwin died of starvation in 2002, and Norman Kidman and Elva Bottineau were convicted of second-degree murder eight years ago. The memorial will be unveiled in September.
