Neil Patrick Harris confirmed that he married his longtime partner David Burtka this past weekend in Italy.
“Guess what? David Burtka and I got married over the weekend. In Italy. Yup, we put the ‘n’ and ‘d’ in ‘husband,'” Harris said on Twitter.
Surrounded by their close family and friends, Harris and Burtka’s ceremony was officiated by How I Met Your Mother director Pam Fryman, and their guests were entertained by Elton John.
In 2011, the couple went public with their excitement over marriage equality in New York: “It PASSED! Marriage equality in NY!! Yes!! Progress!!” Harris tweeted in the moment.
The duo was engaged for five years before finally tying the knot Saturday with the help of their twins Harper Grace and Gideon Scott.
Harris recently told Glamour that starting a family with Burtka rekindled their romance: “Watching David become another level of person, mastering this other domain, made me look at him with a whole other set of appreciative eyes. That sort of made me re-fall in love with him,” he confessed.
