Although Lena Dunham danced half-naked in an MTV “Rock the Vote” PSA last month, the Washington Post reports that Dunham does not practice what she preaches. Although the PSA is meant to encourage and shame young people into voting in the 2014 midterm, Dunham herself did not vote in the last midterm. The same is true for at least four others who appeared in the video with Dunham:
Rock The Vote released a public service announcement last month with a parody of Lil Jon’s “Turn Down For What” that featured public figures who explained why they planned to vote in the midterm elections, but according to public records, a number of them didn’t vote in the last midterm election.
At least five who appeared in the PSA — “Girls” actress Lena Dunham, comedian Whoopi Goldberg, “Orange is the New Black” actress Natasha Lyonne, “Rich Kids of Beverly Hills” star E.J. Johnson, and actor Darren Criss — did not vote in the last midterm, records from Los Angeles County and New York City show.
Dunham probably has bigger things to worry about than this glaring piece of hypocrisy. The “Girls” star is currently under fire for a passage in her new memoir where she admits to sexually inappropriate behavior towards her infant sister as a child. Following the fall-out, Dunham canceled the next two stops on her European book tour.
