Bollywood actress Gauhar Khan was slapped in the face during filming of the Raw Star reality television show in India Sunday evening by an irate audience member who claimed that the actresses’ clothing was too revealing for a Muslim woman to be wearing.
Mohammad Akil Malik, 24, was arrested on charges of assault, molestation, and threatening behavior after he stood up and slapped Khan during a break in filming of the reality singing competition, according to CNN.
Indian police told the BBC that when Malik was arrested, he told police that “being a Muslim woman, she should not have worn such a short dress.”
According to the Independent, Indian publication Mid-Day quoted Malik as saying the following after his arrest:
Actresses are the face of society and they should not wear skirts and short clothes as they make youngsters get attracted to them sexually. These days, boys who are minors are also committing crimes such as rape and molestation and many of them keep obscene photographs of actresses in their pockets.
If actresses stop wearing short clothes, crime will decrease and lead to a better society.
Private security guards with the TV show apprehended Malik after the alleged assault and quickly handed him over to Indian police.
Khan took to Twitter Tuesday to thank her fans for their support after the incident:
I thank all my fans…loved ones n imp voices of personalities tat hav supported me in dis traumatic time..May almighty bless us all.
