Meet the Cast of the New Bond Film

Details for the next installment of the James Bond franchise were officially announced Thursday morning in London.

Producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli released the title of the 24th James Bond adventure, Spectre.

Previously titled Bond 24, the film will feature an all-star cast that is sure to have fans speculating about the return of some notable characters.

The studio executives made the announcement at London’s Pinewood Studios alongside Christoph Waltz and Daniel Craig, the latter of whom will again reprise the roll of James Bond.

Waltz made headlines recently when it was announced he would play a role in the upcoming film. Thursday’s release confirmed his involvement and offered a few more details.

The official James Bond Twitter page states Waltz will play Oberhauser, which could refer to Hannes Oberhauser, a previous character with close ties to the British spy.

The cast will also feature Lea Seydoux, Dave Bautista, Andrew Scott, and Monica Bellucci.

Sam Mendes will return as director, with writers John Logan, Neil Purvis, and Rob Wade also on board.

“I felt an attachment to the characters that we created in Skyfall,” Mendes told The Hollywood Reporter. “I felt like there was unfinished business, and that there was a lot more I could do with them once I’d kind of stepped aside and had some time off,” he added, saying that he was “quite exhausted and strung out” after the last film.

Skyfall, was a blockbuster phenomenon, earning $1.1 billion, the second highest earner of 2012 behind The Avengers and the highest-grossing film in U.K. history.

In addition to Craig, also returning from 2012’s Skyfall are Naomi Harris as Moneypenny, Ben Whishaw as Q, and Ralph Fiennes as Gareth Mallory.

Spectre likely refers to the fictional criminal organization featured in early Ian Fleming Bond novels.

The group, whose name is an acronym for Special Executive for Counterintelligence, Terrorism, Revenge, and Extortion, first appeared on screen in 1962’s Dr. No, led by Bond’s arch-nemesis, Ernst Stavro Blofeld.

Shooting for the film will reportedly take place in Rome, London, Morocco, Mexico City, the Austrian Alps, and Stockton.

Spectre is scheduled to begin filming Monday and is expected to hit U.S. theaters Nov. 6, 2015.
